medullary fibres may be easily traced to the cerebellum. This, indeed, was known to the older anatomists, who called it " processus cerebelli ad medullam oblongatam." In its course upwards, it meets with a mass or ganglion called corpus dentatum, which contains much brown matter, and is considered by Dr. S. a preparatory apparatus, destined to increase the medullary filaments which enter it. From this the primary fasciculus receives, as usual, accessions of white nervous bundles, and, thus strengthened, divides into many medullary branches and layers, which form the hemispheres of tjie cerebellum. One of these branches or layers goes to form the proces-

Johann Gaspar Spurzheim: A Life Dedicated to Phrenology
Loved for his empathetic nature but admired for his analytical mind, Gaspar Spurzheim (1776-1832) was a prominent contributor to phrenology, a field of neuroscience focused on studying the shapes of the skulls in relation to the activity levels of certain functional areas of the brain. This curiosity about the connection between physical characteristics and brain function was seeded in the youn...
متن کاملThe Structure of the Human Brain
I f you lived in the 19th century, your entire character—attributes such as ambition, tenderness, wit and va lor might have been judged by the size and shape of your skull, this practice, called phrenology, was developed by Franz Joseph Gall and Johann Spurzheim iti Vienna during the early 1800s. Adherents claimed different mental "faculties" were localized to different parts of the brain, and ...

Dr. Parry's Elements of Pathology and Therapeutics. ( Continued from page 159. ) TV E shall pass entirely over two sections in our author's work?one on the structure and functions of the Nervous System ; the other on the Mental Faculties. In the first are many accurate and ingenious anatomical remarks, tho' we think he has eulogised rather too highly, Messrs. Gall and Spurzheim. In the second, ...

The organization of gall on the ovary ofSesamum indicum L induced by the gall midge, Asphondylia sesami Felt, not only affects biochemical equilibrium of the host but also causes disturbed vegetative growth and reduced seed-setting. The toxicity created by the gall maker induces the re-orientation of vasculature Cecidogenetic stimuli lead to excessive hypertrophy and hyperplasy forming the gall...
متن کاملEtiology of Chinaberry Gall Disease in Iran
Chinaberry (Melia azedarach L.) is a beautiful tree indigenous to the Himalayas that grows as a native plant in Iran. Symptoms similar to bacterial gall have been observed on the crown, shoot and twig of chinaberry, a recent landscape tree since 2003-2004 in Shiraz, Fars province, south of Iran. A gram negative bacterium was isolated from the galls. The isolates did not produce fluorescent pigm...
